Introduction to EcoTherapy

Tired of therapy online? How about therapy in the woods?

  • Orchard Hill Nature Center, Newtown, CT

Service Description

Being in nature has an assortment of health benefits including reducing many mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, and chronic stress. The origin of the word human means "Earth-being". Just as apples come from an apple tree, humans come from the Earth. And yet for many of us, we experience a disconnect from nature. Our lives are busy and exist primarily indoors eroding our well being. Eco-therapy recognizes these healing qualities of nature and the integral role nature plays in our health and well being and for the health and well being of the planet and ecosystems. Come explore eco-therapy techniques that you can use with clients that will help you to incorporate nature into the therapeutic relationship. Learn mindfulness activities and experience gratitude, wonder, awe, playfulness, and many other feelings as you engage in this experiential eco-therapy class. Some activities include sensory awareness techniques in nature, walking meditation, barefoot walking, exploring and play with your inner child and experiencing the intimacy and connection of communion with eating a wild plant or touching water.
