Insurance
Most therapists at the Key Therapy office accept the following insurances: HUSKY, Cigna, Aetna, United Behavioral Heath, Oxford, CTCare, and Anthem. (Only LMSW/LCSWs can take Medicare at this time). For out of network services a receipt can be provided once the session is paid in full. If you don't see your insurance listed, give us a call and we can explore your benefits.
Clients are responsible for understanding their policies.
In the event that your insurance doesn't cover the cost of a session, you would be responsible for the full amount.

Sessions and consultations are by appointment only. Our therapists make every effort to accommodate your schedule and be available when you need. From time to time clients may experience unforeseen obstacles, sudden illness or other events that can make getting to your appointment difficult.
If you need to cancel or reschedule we request
48-hour notice
prior to your scheduled appointment.
To cancel call, text or email your therapist directly.
Failure to notify your therapist in a timely manner may result is a late cancellation fee.
Scheduling

What does my Insurance Cover?
Insurance Covers the cost of the time you spend with your therapist as well as the required documentation of your session. Documentation is required for reimbursement of services. Insurance evaulates how much time is spent and reimburses up to 60 minutes in most cases. Anthem BCBS consistently "down codes" 60 minute sessions to 45 minutes sessions even when a session meets or exceeds the requirements.
What does my Insurance NOT Cover?
Insurance does not cover any time spend beyond a 53-60 minute session, regardless of the nature of the situation. This means insurance does not cover time needed to stabilize a crisis that extends beyond 60 minutes; family or couple sessions that extend beyond 60 minutes; or time a therapists spends outside of session coordinating care, vetting resources, collaborating with other professionals, or providing needed services where the client is not present in the room such as educational meetings, GAL representation, or working with DCF. Insurance also does not cover services received on the same day as other similar services. This means an APRN visit and a therapy visit on the same day would result in one of those visits not being covered; usually the more expensive visit. It also does not cover no-show or late cancellation fees.
Other Available Services
Insurance companies are very strict in what they will cover and do not reimburse providers for time spent outside of your actual session. Below you will find a list of services that are sometimes essential but not covered by insurance, along with the established fees.
If you find that you have a need for any of these services, please discuss those needs with your provider in advance to avoid unexpected out of pocket costs. Keep in mind this list refers to services outside of session time. Any related support you receive within the parameters of your scheduled session can and will be billed as part of your therapy service under insurance.

Help Us Help You
At Key Therapy we want therapy to be accessible. Not only do we take most insurances, we offer lower-cost options and sliding scales.
We do our best to understand what your policy covers and share what we've learned after contacting your insurance company, however, as a policyholder you will always have access to more information about your plan than we do. Because of this, clients are responsible for understanding their own benefits, including what their policy covers, when their insurance re-sets, and what their co-pays are.
For people who have gotten behind or need an alternative way of covering their therapy costs, we even offer payment plans. In return, we ask our clients to communicate changes and update us regularly if there are any payment issues. Work with us and we will work with you.
No insurance? High Deductible?
We Have
Low Cost Therapy Options
Don't let finances keep you from getting the help you need.
High insurance deductibles and lack of coverage for specialists is a problem for many people, especially when it comes to mental health care. It seems more private health insurance companies are not covering mental health, more clinicians are not taking insurance and even when policies do include therapy and you're able to find someone in your network, you may have to pay thousands of dollars to meet a deductible before you see any insurance benefit.
At Key Therapy you don't have to make a choice between paying for therapy or buying groceries. We have options!
Option 1.
Student Interns
An Intern is in the latter part of their education; has been trained in the art of therapy including assessments, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions and cultural and ethical considerations.
AGSs are highly supervised, have advanced training, are often enthusiastic in their practice, eager to help and to learn. AGSs can be mature adults who have had a variety of life experiences, previous related experience and/or a passion for the field or they can sometimes be younger individuals who are highly relatable to children and teens as well as young adults.
Direct Pay Fee per Session: $65
Option 2.
Certified Coaching/Consultation
Coaching is not the same as therapy, but if you find you are struggling with normative life transitions; decision making, goal setting, career choices, failure to launch, communication, or even relationship issues, coaching might be an excellent option for you.
Non-pathologizing, strengths-based and to the point. Coaching is also available at a lower per-session rate with discounts for packages and multiple sessions.
Fee per 60m Session: $150
Fee per 45m Session: $125
Fee per 30m Session: $100
Pay in full for three 60m
coaching sessions
and get 10% off the total.
Option 3.
Post Graduate Associate (PGA)
If you are unsure about working with an AGS or feel you might need someone with a little more training, consider a licensed Associate
An Associate is a therapist under supervision that has graduated from their program and is working to complete their hours required for licensure in the state of Connecticut. An Associate has a Master's degree, has already completed over 500 hours of therapy and over 100 hours of supervision as part of their graduate program. Associates are available at Key for a discounted rate, slightly higher than our AGS, and at a significantly lower rate than a fully licensed clinician.
Direct Pay Fee per 50m Session: $120.
*Sliding Scale Available by request
